Genealogy: Adam




I. Adam (ruddy, of the earth, or earthling), adamah (soil); compare edom (be red), and dam (blood)
This is a generic term for humanity, serving as a proper name, but, it is not inconceivable that using the word "soil" to describe a man,
means that he is the basis for life to come from him.
Lived 930 years Children: Cain, Abel, Seth
(2) Cain (possession, acquired, or smith) a farmer; killed Abel; left the presence of God, wandered east of Eden, and dwelt in Nod. Cain begot:

(7) Lamech (?) who took two wives, Adah (ornament) and Zillah (shadow or protection) and begot:

(8) Jubal (to lead or horn player) the first of all who play on the lyre and pipe; as well as
(8) Tubal-cain (metal smith or Tubal the smith)?, teacher of brass and iron
(8) Naamah (pleasant or sweet) a daughter
Gen. 4:23 "And Lamech said, "Hear me, you wives, for I have slain a man who wounded me, and a youth who struck me. If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold."
(2) Abel/Hebel/Habel (breath, vapor, drover, or mortality) a shepherd; killed by his brother Cain. (Abel is also the Hebrew word for a field, pasture, meadow or brook)
II. Seth/Sheth/Shath (substitute, stitch, or compensation) Begotten by Adam at 130 yrs. old: "Was in the image of Adam" Gen. 5:3 Lived 912 years Gen. 5:8
Children: At 105 yrs. old begot Enos & other sons and daughters; Gen. 4:26, "Then began men to call upon the name of the Lord."
III. Enos/Enosh (mortal man) lived 905 years Gen.5:11 begot Kenan at 90 yrs. old
IV. Kenan/Cainan (spear or acquired) lived 910 years; begot Mahalalel at 70 yrs. old
V. Mahalalel/Malaleel (praise of God or God lets His light shine) lived 895 years; begot Jared at 65 yrs. old
VI. Jared/Jered (descent) lived 962 years; begot Enoch at 162 yrs. old
VII. Enoch/Henoch/Henoc (dedicated) lived 365 years, begot Methuselah at 65 yrs. old. Gen.5:24, "He walked with God and was no more, for God took him"
VIII. Methuselah/Mathusale (spear-bearer or man of the dart) lived 969 years, begot Lamech at 187 years
IX. Lamech (?) lived 777 years, begot Noah at 182 yrs. old
Gen.6:3, "And the Lord said, 'My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh; yet his days shall be 120 years.'" (It was twelve generations, when Joseph died of an old age at 110 yrs. old, for this to become the permanent age of men).

Gen. 8:21, "I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every living thing as I have done. While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease."

X. Noah/Noe (rest or comfort) lived 950 yrs, begot Shem, Ham, Japheth at 500 yrs. old Gen. 7:11, 8:14 Was 1 year, 10 days in the ark. Noah became a husbandman over vineyards. Gen. 9:25, "... blessed be the Lord God of Shem, and Canaan will be his servant. God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem, and Canaan shall be his servant."

(4) Togarmah/Thogorma (?) his clan were farmers, sold horses and mules in Tyre Ezek. 27:14 They also were military, and likely in the area of Armenia.

Lebanon, and the Jebusite, Amorite, Girgasite, Hivite, Arkite, Sinite, Arvadite, Zimarite, and the Hamathite; Gen. 10:18, and afterwards were all the families of the Canaanites spread abroad; from Sidon and Gerar to Gaza, and from Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboim, even to Lasha
XI. Shem/Sem (name or fame) (origin of "Semite") The father of the children of Eber (Hebrews) Gen.10:21 was given the blessing of Noah, though not firstborn. Gen 11:11 lived 600 yrs; begot Arphaxad at 100 yrs old, 2 yrs. after the flood

(2) Aram (?) ancestor of Arameans, the land of "Aram" being NE of Palestine, on the high plateau rising N. of Sea of Galilee to the banks of the Euphrates River of Mesopotamia. Begot:

XVIII. Nahor (snorting or the angry one)= lived 148 yrs., begot Terah at 29 yrs. old
XIX. Terah/Thare = lived 205 yrs, begot Abram at 70 yrs. old. Other children: Nahor, Haran
XX. Abram (exalted father) also: Abraham (father of a multitude) Gen. 25:7 lived 175 yrs Children: Ishmael at 86 yrs., Isaac at 100 yrs., and by Ketura sons Zimran, Jokshan, Medan
