  The Bridge

  November 18, 2021

Once upon a time... there was a bridge.
This bridge... was an old... stone... bridge...
From some ancient medieval age...
Over a small, gurgling river
That swirled... in its depths.

On one side of the river...
Was fragrant, green grass...
Was fine fruit trees...
Was pines... and oaks...
And a clear, cool breeze.

On the other...
The jungle.

Children often played around
That bridge that goes to the jungle...
...The dark and mysterious draws them in.

Every step closer they would come
To the other side of the bridge...
The more they got familiar with its ways...
The more they were excited by the jungle.
But... they'd always run back...
Scamper back... so very quickly...
Like thieves...
They would run with glee.

There were stories about that jungle...
Strange creatures in the trees...!
Strange sounds in the distance...!
Strange growls... closer by...!
Whistling...! in the dark...!
You have to live in... FEAR...!!

There were stories...
From those who went there...
Who got lost among the trees...
Who got so lost... in that deep, dark jungle...
That they saw how worse
The worst of the worst
Of the worst of the worst... can be.

And so one day...
...As each one of them say...
They... each one... came to know
The jungle isn't such a beautiful place
When you're lost among the trees
... And can't get home.
They speak of it now... in sadness.

It still stands there...
That old... stone... bridge...
From some ancient medieval age...
Oh... you can cross it...
If you dare to cross it...

...There's another story, they say...
It's a story they never tell...
Once you cross it... if you dare to cross it...
Once you get lost in that jungle
...You may never find home again...
You may never get home again.
