Can I Lean On You

October 25, 2021

For me...
It's been a long, long road.
Enemies...
Disguised as lovers... and friends...
Make jokes about me...
Hiding insults inside sweet words...
Hilarity at my innocence...
Stripping me of defenses...
Like underwear hung on a flag pole...
While I died in my shoes
And looked for help
In vain.

Who is left to trust...
When love is used to destroy...
When even thoughts are betrayed...
And destruction sets in...
And all hope is lost.

Like a ragged dog
Kicked out the door...
Lost in the city...
Surrounded by life...
But dying every day...
My life is mocked and betrayed
Everywhere I go.

Can I lean on you... ?
Or... else...
I will leave this world
Never trusting...
Never having rest...
Never knowing... love...
Always waiting for
That next kick... to hit me.
