Ed's Written Story

Chronology -- December 1987 -- Ed Reinig

The Reinig's came here from Trier, Germany. Our great grandfather was killed in an alley-way after stopping at his favorite beer joint for a bit of beer. The opinion was that he had either just paid his bar bill or had flashed a substantial sum of money. When he left to go home this robber probably did not intend to kill him, but hit him over the head and he either hit him "just right" or he hit his head on an object in the alley. The kids then left Germany soon afterward.

Grandma Reinig came from Luxemburg which were almost all Germans living there. Grandma's oldest sister, Susan, married a man by the name of John Lienen, and they lived in Portsmouth, Iowa. When Grandma Reinig came from Sigourney, Iowa, where their family settled after coming to the states, to visit her sister, she met grandfather and they got married not long after that. Portsmouth was officially declared a town in 1882.

There was, I believe, 4 kids in Grandma Reinig's family -- John, Joe, Susan, and Barbara. There were seven, I believe, in Grandpa Reinig's family -- 4 girls and 3 boys, John, Jacob, and Matthew.

The picture references are to the family picture that includes the girls.
