INDIANA "ANNA" HARLAN CADY

        Judson was a farmer and owner of a furniture store

1857 born January 6, 1857

1880 In the spring after they married, this couple moved to a farm near Hubbard, Iowa. A year later the bought 80 acres east of Hubbard. But after five years of poor crops and the loss of their home by fire, they decided to move west and purchased land next to Allen, her brother.
1886 They left Hubbard, IA

1901 After glowing reports from relatives about Oregon, the Cadys succumbed and in February 1901 they headed west after selling their homestead in Nebraska.

H. B. (Henry Barton) Harlan, son of Alfred N. Harlan, described his Uncle Jud as: "strong, manly, kindly, congenial, had deep religious convictions - would never wrong a neighbor and go out of his way to do someone a favor."
He had a gift of expressing himself in verse and a number of his poems were left in a manuscript.

1909 Judson died of cancer April 7, 1909; is buried at Odd Fellows Cemetery
1940 Anna died March of 1940 in Corvallis, Oregon

Anna had a "good business head" and managed to provide for her family after her husband's death in 1909, only eight years after their move to Oregon. Seven of their nine children graduated from Oregon State College.

        Judson like to brag about his oldest son's talents as a musician. He said that by the age of eight his boy could play any music commonly heard on the organ. But Charles desired a good education and went to school in Arapahoe, NE while staying with the Ball family. Mr. Ball worked for the Burlington RR and Charles picked up an interest in and learned telegraphy and followed that vocation. He worked for 40 years as dispatcher, cashier for RR in Portland.
