James Harland
First paternal ancestor known to the Harlans in America.
James was born about the year 1625 in Bishoprick, near Durham, England.
Tradition says his father's name was William.
"As far as we know" (per the Harlan book) he was the father of three sons:
Thomas -- who married Katherine Bullock and Alice Foster
George -- who married Elizabeth Duck; and died in 1714
Michael -- who married Dinah Dixon; and died in 1729
James Harland was a "yeoman" or one who owns and farms a small estate.
He was a member of the Episcopal Church.
