The Brass Ring

December 9, 2016

We arrive at the fair
Our eyes openly amazed...
And walk in wonder
Around the booths and the games.
Barkers call to us, "Over here! Over here!"
"Knock 'em down and you can win!"
A teddy bear...
Maybe a goldfish.

Then there are the animals...
And the cakes, and cookies, and quilts...
And the ribbons of blue or gold
For "Best of the Show."

For the brave... are the rides.
Strap you in and off you go...
Round and round
And upside down!
And you always survive!

And maybe... there is a carousel...
With pipe organ music
Playing gayly as you go
Round and round...
Sitting on a horse
That goes up... and goes down...
Going round... and around...
And if you have a good heart
You can rise up on that horse
And you can grab that brass ring
And fly... fly... fly...
