Stuck in Dreams

June 21, 2011

Winter...
The fire... gone very low...
And dawn
Only tinted the far sky
Through the forests of trees
Sleeping their long sleep...
And all the world
Was frozen and stilled
Just as it had been
Moons and moons ago.

The thick blankets
Weighed on me
Like some tedious cocoon
Spun by a worrious old lark
Knowing the cold would come
And the nights would be long...
And the sun would go low.

I lay... frozen too...
Stuck in dreams
That were nearly too distant now
To really grasp again...
Striving... to remember that...
That... dream...
That silly winter dream
I'd had somewhere in the cold night...
That dream that warmed me...
As I slept.

I woke again...
The sun... now bright
In a grey sky...
The only warmth now
In my lit room.
I resolved myself...
And braced myself...
Grabbing my great wool shawl
And sliding into my boots...
I dashed towards the kitchen
And coffee...
And brightness...
And... a lovely new day.
