Sleeping

2001

I awoke to your touch.
I had been so...
Deeply dreaming...
So surrendered to my sleep...
Delicious... delicious... dreaming...
In your arms.

The night had ended early.
We both were tired
From the work of the day...
Slaving away our beautiful lives...
We had a small supper
And just... gone to bed...
Just to sleep.

I hardly noticed your presence...
My thoughts lazy...
All my senses numbed...
And you were just so
Sweetly... beautifully... there.

Somewhere in the night...
While I dreamed...
You had moved closer to me...
So subtly... that...
I never knew...
So tenderly... that...
My mind kept its dreaming.
So that...
When I stirred
You became part of my stirring.
So that...
All I felt...
You became part of my feeling.

Like sleeping dancers
We moved together
Deep into the night.

I awoke to your touch...
Your loving hand had found me
And brought me back from my dreams...
And I knew...
We were hopelessly, helplessly bound
And our hearts would not be freed.
And I relished it.
I relished the dream of...
Being ever so gently...
Forever bound... to you.
