Today... is the anniversary of the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision that a
woman's right to privacy extends to her decision to bear a child or... to
not bear a child...
the right to have an abortion. Any restrictions apply only to VIABLE fetuses.
Abortion has become a political issue... thoroughly dividing our nation on the
opposing camps. This division basically came after the influence from a Christian
evangelist named Francis Schaeffer... and his book
which influenced the rise of religious leaders to become politically active... and with one of
the important issues being the issue of abortion.
It is described like this...
Wikipedia - Francis Schaeffer
"He describes the conflict with secular humanism as a battle in which "these two religions,
Christianity and humanism, stand over against each other as totalities."
Schaeffer held that the principles, not the actual details, of Old Testament civil law were
applicable under the New Covenant of Jesus. He wrote "The moral law [of the Old Testament],
of course, is constant, but the civil law only was operative for the Old Testament theocracy.
I do not think there is any indication of a theocracy in the New Testament until Christ
returns as king."
And so... we can see that the opposition to abortion has religious roots... and those
who seek to impose this belief on the nation at-large... are in fact... evangelizing on public
time. This religious premise belongs only in churches... not in public forums where
representatives are paid by the public.
We can really see that this entire issue is a fallacy... when any comparable outrage... for
torture... starvation... disease... injustice... hardly raises a whimper of protest with these
same people. They have tied themselves in knots... seeing only those who have not accepted
the Christian religion as the problem... not issues of life and death... suffering and healing...
freedom and tyranny.
Breastfeeding is a natural form of birth control... stunting the production
of eggs in a woman. Although our "modern" culture encourages artificial milk
products for infants... some cultures will see breastfeeding into a child's young years.
What is problematic is the economics... the career choices women must make.
Not many are aware of "female condoms" which are more stable during use...
and which can be washed and re-used.
But... all in all... we must mature as modern people.
We ought not to breed like dogs.
We ought not to be reckless practitioners of sex...
having children one after another after another...
wanted or not wanted.
We should get a grip on ourselves... and make thoughtful decisions about our personal
goals and our desires for a family.
We should think of protected sex in the same way as washing our hands...
especially in non-exclusive relationships... if we are honest with each other...
as a matter of cleanliness.
The benefit of exclusive relationships being... less need for protection.
Sex in itself is not a base instinct for dark pleasures...
but is a natural desire to feel the affection and closeness of another person...
the sharing... caring... joy... of being a viable living creature...
How many preachers have themselves sought the affection and release of sex...
outside of the confines of their own marriages...?
how many have felt their own HORRIBLE HUMANITY...?
The arguments... humanism vs Christianity or religion...
are based on the belief that we are ignorant creatures who can't figure out
anything on our own... and must get guidance from prophets... ancient and/or
modern prophets... who have forged a personal relationship with God themselves.
Of course... who can know... WHO they talk with... at night...
And... prophecy... does not require logic. Wouldn't it be better to resolve life
logically... based on reason and science and understanding... BEFORE
looking for answers in ancient manuscripts...?
And... the arguments AGAINST abortion are themselves... humanistic beliefs...
are themselves based solely on human rationalities.
Abortion HAS been addressed in the scriptures... but to the contrary of modern Christianity.
Looking closely... the scriptures are plumb full to the brim with violence... of one form
or another... and children have varying values... not considered viable until a month
